Flow like Water!

In 2010, I was hired to build a new eCommerce channel for an insurance company!

I was facing major roadblocks within the company in attempting so!

Legal would not approve creatives. (They wanted the entire 6 pages of T&C on every digital communication)

Marketing would not allocate budgets

IT did not want to work on a new platform, the old one broke down everyday leading to high drop outs

I was so dejected within 2 months

My boss saw my helplessness & invited me home for dinner one day

At the table he gave me a glass & got some ice cubes from the fridge

He asked me to scoop out the ice & put them in the glass but he put a strainer on top of the glass & said you must put the ice in the glass without removing the strainer

I laughed. I said, we will have to wait till the ice melts and finds its way through

The bottom of the glass is your goal

The strainer represents people who will always block your progress

You will find them everywhere you go, he said!

If you will be as rigid as ice you will never get through. If you are willing to adapt, be fluid & flow/find your way around these blockers you will succeed at whatever you do in life

In the next quarter we included ecomm sales as KRA’s for support teams!

We went on to build one of the most successful digital channels in online insurance
