I got shortlisted for the role of an Asst. Manager Marketing with one of the biggest FMCG brands globally in 2008

3 yrs into work, this was such a big, dreamy opportunity

We were 10 candidates shortlisted & flown down from various cities

After d 1st round with d Brand managers, the HR mgr (Clyde) came out & asked 9 candidates to leave

I was the 10th one. Clyde said, the Brand managers have really liked me & I was a step away

I went into d final round brimming with confidence & gave my best

Next day they asked for my papers & said we will come back in a week

A week turned into a months & I never heard from them.

During that time I checked my phone maybe 10,000 times to ensure I didn't miss that call

It hurt a lot then. It would have been such an amazing break

All this while I always thought aloud, where did I mess up? Was I just not good enough to work for such a brand?

After 7 months I bumped into Clyde at a Marketing event & he mentioned that the role for which I was to be hired was parked since they received a global level hiring freeze same week due to d 2008 slowdown

To anyone who's experienced this: There is nothing wrong with you. You may not even know tat d reason you weren’t hired for a role was totally irrelevant to your skills

Never regret anything!
