Greener Grass

Fresh out of B schools, my 2 best friends were placed with an American MNC in Bangalore dealing in #Tech software

while I was placed with a Life Insurance company in a small town!

Everyday we spoke I felt worse about my situation. They said, they worked on bean bags, wore shorts to office, had flexi hours & food at work

while I had to tag along with sales agents & watch them hard-sell insurance products to reluctant customers

After 7 months I got an opportunity to jump to the MNC through my friends & I lapped it up!

But once I landed there I realized, there were no bean bags, no flexi hours, free food was actually just free coffee & the center functioned as a KPO, where we had to call leads for 6 hours a day out of 8!

I quit in a week & went back to my earlier role, where thankfully they were very happy to take me back!

Life is like an Instagram account! Most people put up only their filtered best for the world to see and it may not be the real picture always!

Those key years at #selling insurance taught me so much about #humanbehavior & also the fact we perceive the grass to be greener at the other end, when it may be perfectly fine at ours!
