On my 1st day at work in an Insurance company that spent millions a month on lead generation, I entered
a lead via search on google & did not get a call for 24 hours. I knew where I had to start!
On my 1st day at a QSR business, I could not order food from my house because it was not geo mapped on the location services we were using
On my 1st day at a retail company, while searching for the brand keyword I realized the marketplace that was bidding for our keyword was landing visitors to another brand
As a consumer and as a worker I have witnessed organisations spend a considerable amount of management time on strategy level discussions but the fundamentals at the bottom always have a gaping room for improvement
Jeff Bezos had/has a dedicated team that mystery shops across all businesses/competitors and reports directly on opportunities and gaps that exist
When you start at a new role, always start as a customer - at the bottom - Go through his journey, irrespective of your role or who your customer is (B2B or B2C)
It will throw up gaping/leaking holes which are so simple that you will wonder how was this overlooked. But trust me there is something everywhere!
