Say NO!

Sourav is very good at PPTs, you should ask him to help" said my Boss during the monthly review meeting at an earlier org.

My boss genuinely loved my section of slides in his quarterly review deck & hence his impromptu suggestion to our strategy head

Our CEO was speaking at a Global event next month & he was taking updates on d status of the Deck from d Strategy head

The strategy head took my boss's word for assurance that I would now work on it

Post d meeting I walked up to the strategy head & politely declined citing a tough sales month. I told my boss, If I would do that, will the strategy head work on my sales targets?

I know this was for the CEO 'But' he hadn't asked me to work on this.

Saying NO to unplanned activities that will drain your productivity is imp if you want to say YES to things that matter

The CEO would appreciate me meeting my #s even if I missed working on a deck & not the vice versa

It was a sticky situation but I learned to say NO more often now than initially in my career

If we say YES to working on a deck over the weekend we say NO to quality time with our Spouse/Kids

If we say YES to late night content Binging, we will say NO to a good night's sleep

Saying NO is imp. 4 chasing what matters! We aren't naturally good at it
